Our new report shows the UK’s post-COVID recovery is threatened by trade skills crisis
The ‘UK Domestic Trade Skills Index’ is a new quarterly report providing comprehensive insights and analysis into the state of the nation’s trades skills. This report highlights key industry trends and uncovers incredible growth opportunities for businesses within the construction sector.
Key findings:
- 1.25million – extra construction trades workers are needed by 2030
- 305,000 – qualified construction trades apprentices are needed by 2030
- 228,000 - apprentices are needed in key trades, with 61% being plumbers, electricians and joiners
- 44% - increase in construction and trades apprenticeships needed on current levels
- 68,000 - apprentices needed in the home repairs sector, with work expected to rise by 37 per cent.
- One fifth – the number of construction trades workers aged 55 or over who will retire before 2030
- 20,000+ – the EU workers who left Britain in 2020 - predicted to drop by an extra 22% by 2030
- 60% - of home improvement and repairs work is done by firms with nine or fewer workers
- £1.5billion – the total extra revenue the Government could receive, plus potential savings, by boosting apprentice numbers - starting in 2021
